Lorna Lorraine - Fine Artist
I am Lorna Lorraine, a self-taught Abstract Expressionist Artist specializing in pastel, who is driven by the way I inspire others with my work. My ability to express my imaginable theories into abstract realism was only recognized when I defied age and gender-related stereotypes by starting Art after publishing my first anthology at age 50. This was not planned but my inspiration emerged upon viewing the works of some talented artists and artisans at a soup kitchen where I went to volunteer my literary services. I later joined them in a permanent exhibit of artwork at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, in the art cooperative that is known as the A-Team. I credit the group for my ephemeral growth into living an artful life.
Just like my poetic expressions, my artwork has followed a similar theme of light contrasting darkness. My inspiration comes from colors of my Jamaican heritage, people and the environment. I was introduced to pastel and developed a fascination with that medium. Although I have a few watercolors, oils, acrylics, charcoals and pencil works, most of my works are in pastel or blends of pastel and acrylic. My main love is portraits in pastel on matboard, mixed media acrylics and ink on wood panel or canvas. Other works have been in Illustrations for children’s storybooks. My works have been expressed through postcards, greeting cards, coasters, posters, portraits and have been seen in the following publications:
